In 2011, the Commission, pursuant to G.L. c. 31, 2(a), conducted an investigation regarding the review and selection of firefighters in the City of Springfield. (Investigation) 2. As part of that investigation, the Commission concluded that the 2010 / 2011 appointment process was compromised by the involvement of a Deputy Fire Chief whose son was appointed as a firefighter during that hiring cycle.
