Under the Massachusetts Public Records Act § 66-10 et seq., I am requesting an opportunity to inspect or obtain copies of the following public records:
— The list of 50 Methuen police officers laid off between Jan. 23, 2019 and today
— A complete police roster of all active officers, sergeants, lieutenants and captains and any other superior officers within the Methuen Police Department, including officers working on any intermittent or part-time basis
— A list of active officers in the department in order of seniority, as compiled by the city, independent of the Civil Service Commission
— Any written communication between the City of Methuen and the Civil Service Commission
If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $10. However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest.
As a reporter for The Eagle-Tribune, I am seeking this information, a matter of public record, for news gathering purposes. This information is not being sought for commercial purposes.
The Massachusetts Public Records Act requires a response to this request within 10 days. If access to the records I am requesting will take longer than this amount of time, please contact me with information about when I might expect copies or the ability to inspect the requested records.
