Rideshare companies Uber and Lyft pay the Commonwealth a fee per ride as part of a legal settlement. The state distributes a portion of that payment (based on the number of rides originating/ending in the city) to municipalities. The funds are distributed annually. The amount of claim settlements has not exceeded insurance coverage in any of the previous three years.
