The majority of this land (69 percent) is permanently protected, while about 47 acres lack permanent protection.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is a department of the Commonwealth that maintains the Commonwealths parks and recreation areas, including the Quabbin Reservoir (Quabbin). The Quabbin has three fishing areas that are open seasonally twenty-six weeks annually. Each year twelve members of the bargaining unit described in paragraph 3, are seasonally promoted from the title Laborer 1, to the Laborer 2 title.
