All officers who bid for Transportation Officer/Sergeant, K-9 Officer/Sergeant or Warrant Unit Officer/Sergeant shall successfully complete the Municipal PoliceTrainingCommittee Reserve Intermittent Academy and have current certification and in-service training prior to commencing employment in said position. The Department will sponsor all interested candidates in order of seniority for all required training.

The Chief shall make all due effort to meet the requirements of the Municipal PoliceTrainingCommittee (MPTC), or any successor agency, for annual in-service training. This training assignment may include distance learning which will be credited to the Officers owed time at a rate equivalent to the corresponding Continuing Education Units (CEUs) designation as provided by the MPTC or any successor training agency.
Officers shall complete TOWN OF STERLING AND FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE LODGE 44 26 COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT successfully a firearms proficiency/marksmanship test based on standards which are reasonably determined by the Massachusetts Municipal PoliceTrainingCommittee. Officers schedules may be adjusted to attend firearms training and no overtime must be paid. B.
The Town will pay the required training fee, authorized by Chapter 38, Section 305 of the Acts of 1995, for a Town-appointed Student Officer (Officer) to attend training at the municipal police recruit training academy (the "Academy") operated by the Massachusetts Municipal PoliceTrainingCommittee or its successor, provided, however, that said Officer remains in the employ of the Town for a period of three (3) years following completion of the Academy
