I am requesting for the city of greenfield information on all outsanding property taxes for all properties that are not owner occupied and what legal actions if any are being taken by the city for these delinquencies. Specific names of owners are not important, but I would like to know the total amount as well as how much is owed individually by property owners so that I can compare them.
I am making this request because after speaking with the mayor's office I was informed that the number of unpaid taxes by a number of investment property owners is signifigant. If other investment property owners owe signifigant amounts of money to the city in unpaid taxes at rates comparable to what I have already requested of one individual property owner then it would suggest a major issue the city is not addressing or advocating for any change.
At a time when many of us have seen reduced hours at jobs due to the national health emergency or have lost jobs entirely, I believe it is important for the public to know and I will be seeking a public forum to make this information more know to greenfield taxpayers who are being asked to continue to pay taxes while the city does not take any signifigant action against landlords that are collecting rent and not paying taxes.
