Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law (M. G. L.
Chapter 66, Section 10), I write to request access to and copies of records
sufficient to show the occurrence of any ransomware attacks against municipal
computer systems; and records of any payments made in response to such an
attack.
For reference, Ransomware is a type of malicious software,
or malware, designed to deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom
is paid. Ransomware typically spreads through phishing emails or by unknowingly
visiting an infected website.
I request to receive this information by electronic mail in
any common electronic format, such as a PDF file or Word document.
If there are any fees associated with searching or copying
these records, please notify me in advance and provide an estimate of the charges.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request
is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the
recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in
this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within
10 business days, as the statute requires. If you cannot comply with my
request, you are statutorily required to provide an explanation in writing.
Please provide all segregable portions of otherwise exempt material.
